The “Arcuate Stitch” is not just for decoration but also for reinforcement
The “arcuate stitch” is a decorative stitch on the back pockets of Levi’s, which is called “arcuate stitch” because it resembles the shape of a bow being drawn. It was first used in 1873 to hold the reinforcing fabric on the back of the pockets, but was trademarked in 1943 to prevent counterfeiting.
