What are the three things you should check out at Isetan Shinjuku's ' Denim de Mirai -Denim Projects-'?

Denim de Mirai – Denim Projects” (hereafter, “Denim de Mirai”) was held at Isetan Shinjuku Store from March 23, 2022 (Wednesday). The used stock of “Levi’ s®︎501®︎” owned by Yamasawa Press Co., Ltd. was upcycled into more than 200 various items through the hands of more than 60 brands, creators and artists from Japan and abroad, including Golden Goose, Keita Maruyama andMina Perhonen, and were displayed at all 11 locations in the Main Building and Men’s The brand is now being developed at a total of 11 locations, including the main building and the men’s building. Among the many attractions of this large-scale event, the OTOKOMAE editorial department has carefully selected three “highlights” that we felt we could particularly recommend through our coverage of the press preview!

Highlights (1) “First, check out “The Stage” on the 1st floor of the main building, where you will find a wide range of products from up-and-coming creators!

The first space that drew crowds as soon as it opened was “The Stage” on the first floor of the main building. Among the products sold at Denim de Mirai, the lineup is centered on luxury-priced clothing, shoes, and interior goods. Some items sold at other Isetan stores are also on display, so please try to find the item you are looking for here first.

The playful designs that utilize the unique details of Levi’ s®︎501®︎ are all very tempting to purchase. Although the items in “The Stage” are basically mainly for women, some of them are available in men’s sizes, and I was able to check out some unisex designs as well. For example, the Golden Goose sneakers in the image below are also available in men’s sizes. The “belt loop” of jeans is used for the shoe tongue, a gimmick unique to this project.

Highlights (2) “Take your time to visit “Center Park” on the 3rd floor of the Main Building, where you can find denim artwork that can only be purchased here.

Take the escalator near “The Stage” on the first floor of the Isetan main building to the third floor to reach the “Center Park” space. Here, art works, furniture and cushions are exhibited and sold. The first thing that catches the eye are the creations created in collaboration with “Master Innovation,” a group of 11 students from Bunka Fashion College. The theme of their graduation project was “neither a product nor a work of art, but a piece of clothing with a quality and freedom somewhere in between.” The image below shows the work created by Lee Changmin. Inspired by his favorite anime, he expressed a new style by combining small parts as if he were making a plastic model.

Also for sale around him are a bag with “tambourine” embroidered in white on Levi’ s®︎501®︎ denim fabric by Mina Perhonen and a doll handmade by Bobby Dazzler using vintage parts and vintage clothing. All of the items are so highly artistic that they are satisfying enough just to admire. Also of note is the space lined with paintings, including one by Ken Tanishiki, who uses an ancient Japanese technique called mokumekomi.

Highlights (3) “Enjoy the world of Levi’s 501 from various angles at ISETAN SEED & LEAF on the 1st floor of the Main Building”.

Lastly, we picked up the “ISETAN SEED & REEF” space, which featured an exhibition that allowed visitors to experience the story of the encounter with the used stock denim used in “Denim de Mirai,” not only through the product itself, but also through the experience, as well as the sale of related brand products and events. The exhibition includes samples of Levi’ s®︎501®︎, whose silhouettes and specifications changed between 1937 and 1966, as well as rare photos that prove that jeans were worn at historical moments such as the Vietnam War and the fall of the Berlin Wall. If you are a denim lover, you should definitely check out this exhibition.

In addition, items from Yamazawa Press’s private brand “One-o-Five,” the origin of the ‘ The items will be sold at the “One-o-Five” store. Takuya Kawahara, who has created the “Shibukaje” culture as the owner of Yamasawa Press and the legendary “JOHN’S CLOTHING” store in Shibuya, has created a new line of products that tickle men’s fancy. The denim collection that tickles men’s fancy is produced in small quantities, and some items often sell out immediately, so those who are interested are advised to check it out as soon as possible.

One-o-Five x OTOKOMAE special order jeans are also available in limited quantities!

The “One-o-Five x OTOKOMAE’s special order jeans” will be available for order in the same space, and the ideal design and silhouette will be reproduced based on the most viewed and saved snap data of people wearing the jeans in OTOKOMAE’s content. The base is a Levi’s®︎ 5.5. The base of the collection is made from Levi’ s®︎501®︎ jeans with realistic color fading that gives them a backbone, so they all have a dignified look. The silhouette has been remade into a modern tapered style, making them suitable for a wide range of styles, from American casual to classically elegant Italian corsets. In-store orders are available for fine-tuning the size and choosing your favorite color, so be sure to stop by and check them out.
