The ” Air Force 1 ” by Virgil Abloh in collaboration with NIKE will be auctioned for charity at Sotheby’s as an advance item for Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2022 Men’s Collection. The auction will be limited to 200 pairs online and the bidding period will run from Wednesday, January 26, 2022 through Tuesday, February 8, 2022 New York time.

Rare ” Air Force 1 ” by Virgil Abloh in a Louis Vuitton pilot case
The Louis Vuitton and Nike collaboration sneaker was presented at the Spring/Summer 2022 Men’s Collection last June. Virgil Abloh, who passed away last November, designed 47 pairs of Air Force 1 for this collaboration. The Air Force 1 by Virgil Abloh, one of the last sneakers he worked on, will be auctioned. The Air Force 1 is one of Nike’s most iconic models, first introduced in 1982 and celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. The special edition model up for auction is made entirely of rare and precious calf leather. The brown monogram and Damier pattern, Louis Vuitton’s signature, are mixed with cowhide piping as accents to create a unique pair. The laces feature the French word “Lacet,” meaning “string,” and the sides are embellished with a graphic with the word “AIR” in quotation marks. The sneaker features Virgil’s signature look that pays homage to hip-hop culture. The sneakers are also housed in Louis Vuitton’s special “pilot case” made of Trillon Monogram leather. The bright orange briefcase-type case comes with a luggage tag featuring the Nike Swoosh logo. It also features a classic S-shaped lock made of white metal. A special cushioning system inside allows sneakers of all sizes to fit snugly inside.

This auction will kick off a series of events that Louis Vuitton plans to hold in 2022. The sneakers to be auctioned will be available in Japanese sizes from 24.5 to 31 cm, and the minimum bid is expected to be $2,000 (approximately 230,000 yen). The proceeds from this auction will be donated to the ” Virgil Abloh “Post Modern” Scholarship Fund” established by Mr. Virgil. This fund was established in partnership with the Fashion Scholarship Fund to assist talented students, including black and African-American students, to receive a fair education.
An exhibition featuring 47 pairs of the collaborative sneakers will also be held as a prelude to the general release of Louis Vuitton and Nike’s ” Air Force 1. The sneakers, which will be sold in limited quantities through the Louis Vuitton store network, will come in different color schemes than the models being auctioned. Prices will be set according to the minimum bid.
