The year 2021 marks the 140th anniversary since Kintaro Hattori founded the Hattori Watch Company, the predecessor of the current Seiko Holdings Corporation, in 1881. To commemorate the occasion, Seiko has released a total of five limited-quantity models from three popular brands: Seiko Presage, Seiko Astron, and Seiko Prospex. The designs are inspired by Japan’s world-renowned emotional landscapes.
February release: Seiko Presage “Sharp Edged Series” expresses “Dawn” with its all-black case and sharply shining golden hands and indexes.
From the Japanese aesthetics brand, Presage, comes a model that expresses “dawn,” the time when the morning sun begins to break through the night sky. The all-black case and gradient-colored dial are reminiscent of the shimmering sunrise, while the sharply shining golden hands and indexes create the dazzle of the incoming sunrise.
The base model of this watch is based on the ” Sharp Edged Series, ” a new design series that incorporates a uniquely sophisticated Japanese aesthetic that expresses the essence of the watch by eliminating ornate decoration. The sharp silhouette composed mainly of flat surfaces with sharp edges creates a powerful luminance and stylishly presents the wrist. The traditional Japanese hemp leaf pattern on the dial reflects light in different directions, creating a deep and beautiful luster. The optional black calf strap, with a pattern reminiscent of the morning sun shining through the dark night, will surely blend in with the all-black case. Furthermore, the mechanical caliber “6R35” of this watch provides a power reserve of approximately 70 hours, making it practical enough to be worn on the following Monday without having to wear it on the weekend.
