Seiko celebrates its 140th anniversary with a reissue of the "King Seiko," a milestone in domestic watchmaking!

SEIKO, the leading Japanese watch brand, will release a reissue model “King Seiko” to commemorate the 140th anniversary of the company’s founding, a limited edition model that inherits the historical design of King Seiko, which was born in 1961 and led the domestic high-end mechanical watch market. It will be released sequentially in Japan and abroad starting in January 2021.

King Seiko”, the first Japanese-made luxury watch that pursued performance, design, and elegance at a high level and presented a new way of being a Japanese luxury watch

In the late 1950s, in order to pioneer a new era of domestically produced wristwatches, Seiko reexamined the performance required of wristwatches and launched a series of groundbreaking models that incorporated its own unique philosophy in movement design and design. The culmination of these efforts can be seen in the Grand Seiko, the pinnacle of Japanese wristwatches, which was born in 1960, and the King Seiko, which was born the following year in 1961. Like the Grand Seiko, the King Seiko was based on the essence of the wristwatch and led the evolution of Seiko’s high-end mechanical watches. The year 2021, which marks the 140th anniversary of the company’s founding, will mark the 60th anniversary of the birth of King Seiko.

The design of the reissue model is based on the second generation King Seiko called “KSK

The base model for this reissue is the second generation King Seiko, called “KSK,” released in 1965, which features water resistance not found in the first generation released in 1961 and a second hand regulator that allows the wearer to set the time by stopping the second hand. The second generation King Seiko was a gem that was highly acclaimed for its evolution in practicality. The sharp edges of the case and glass shape are said to have established the originality of the King Seiko brand design.

The distinctive thick and firm “can feet,” the low center of gravity, the highly wearable and practical form, the sharply shining three-dimensional indexes with multi-faceted cuts, and the imposing long, thick hands. The design of the index at 12 o’clock, with its unique cross-sectional shape and lighter cut on the top surface, has been reproduced as much as possible, and the case has been increased in size from the original 36.7 mm to a more contemporary 38.1 mm.
