Todd Snyder talks about it!What are the highlights of the Woolrich Black Label?

For this collection, we tried to create a contemporary style that is timeless and sophisticated, while still retaining the heritage of Woolrich. For example, the logo design was inspired by the logo of the Woolrich factory in Pennsylvania. In order to create a powerful image, we actually utilized the original bold logo design while updating it in detail.

Below the new brand logo are the words “MILAN,” “TOKYO,” and “NEW YORK,” the cities in which Woolrich has offices. The initials “MOUNTAIN” in this sequence is also a unique feature of Todd Snyder’s attention to detail.

Todd Snyder
Woolrich believes that beyond its image as a classic, long-established American brand, Woolrich should further its influence in major fashion cities such as Milan, Tokyo, and New York. In particular, we intend to strengthen the brand’s identity while reflecting the different views of fashion in each city, and to promote global brand development beyond classic American style.

Retaining classic design while adding trendy and luxurious elements

Todd Snyder
For the Woolrich Black Label, we focused on blending five elements: heritage, modern, luxury, technology, and street. In particular, we insist on retaining timeless classic designs while adding modern trends and luxury elements.

The collection is a perfect fusion of traditional Woolrich style and Todd Snyder’s modern sensibility, such as a modern take on the red and black buffalo checks used in hunting wear, printed on nylon material.

Could this be the beginning of a hot collaboration?

Todd Snyder’s attitude is “If there is a genuine product that we can’t surpass, let’s collaborate with that brand,” and he has successfully collaborated with many famous brands such as Tricker’s, G-Shock, and Champion for his eponymous brand. There is a possibility that Woolrich Black Label will also develop a collaboration that will make a splash in the industry in the future!

Todd Snyder
I can’t say what specific collaborations we will be doing in the future, but we hope to collaborate on a collection for Woolrich that will bring fashion and culture together.

The Woolrich Black Label collection unveiled this time includes outerwear made with fabric from LYRIA, the world’s premier fabric manufacturer used by luxury maisons, and knitwear from Kanata, a long-established cowtin knitwear company founded in 1979, and other items that Todd Snyder’s The items were only possible thanks to Todd Snyder’s connections.

Todd Snyder
Woolrich has a history of supplying fabrics to some of the most prestigious brands. In fact, when I worked for Ralph Lauren, we purchased fabric from Woolrich. That is why I make no compromises when it comes to the fabrics I use for my Woolrich collections. I have made the most of the connections I have made in my career to sublimate traditional materials into a modern and luxurious …

OTOKOMAE readers' questions answered! What is Todd Snyder's favorite thing about Japan?

Todd Snyder
I am heavily influenced by Japan. For example, Comme des Garcons and Junya Watanabe for fashion brands, and Noguchi Isamu for artists. I like Japanese fashion because of its unique philosophy and its aesthetic sense that pays attention to even the smallest details. The fashion scene is especially wonderful in that it inherits classic styles but arranges them in a unique way. When I come to Japan, I often look for American vintage in Japan.

Todd Snyder’s favorite places in Japan are BerBerJin in Harajuku, JANTIQUES in Nakameguro, and Tsutaya in Daikanyama. During his visit to Japan, he also visited the flagship store of Woolrich Outdoor Label, which opened last year, and was struck by the high quality space that reflects Japanese sensibilities.

What is Todd Snyder’s favorite item?

Todd Snyder
My favorite item right now is the Woolrich Black Label bag, which can be used for both city use and hiking and camping. It’s made of X-PAC fabric from the US and produced in Italy, bringing a new sensibility to a single bag.

I personally like “things that show commitment and individuality,” and other favorites include a Toyota Land Cruiser that I customized myself, and an Omega Speedmaster from 1976, the same year my wife was born.

Todd Snyder’s custom Land Cruiser has a 4Runner engine and is painted slate blue on the outside, as seen on vintage Porsches. The interior seats are custom-made Red Wing leather.
