What is ” Tilden knit ” in the first place?
A tilden knit (tilden sweater) is a knit designed with a wide stripe pattern on the V-neck collar, hem, and cuffs. The cable-knit thick-bodied tilden knit is considered orthodox and classic, but in recent years, as the wearing scene expands, many thin high-gauge and vest-type knits have also appeared. As a result, “knitwear with a V-neck and characteristic lines” is increasingly referred to as “tilden knit” as a general term.
The Tilden knit was born in the 1920s. It was named “Tilden knit” after William Tilden*, a famous tennis player of the time, who liked to wear it. For the same reason, it is also called a tennis sweater or a sports sweater. Nowadays, some call it a cricket sweater as a synonymous item, but strictly speaking, they are different.
