The shock-resistant structure of the G-Shock watches that took the world by storm required the module, the heart of the watch, to be encased in a soft resin, and the full-metal construction was considered impractical because it was heavy and less effective in reducing shock. The “bezel bumper protection structure” was realized after repeated trial and error by the project team, taking a cue from car bumpers. By placing a rubber cushioning material between the bezel, which holds the glass, and the case, and by adding an L-shaped security gasket, the team succeeded in reducing the external load on the metal bezel. Furthermore, the bezel has been strengthened with a four-point screw, which has become one of MR-G’s symbolic details, and a can-feet structure to firmly secure the base of the band.

Feature of G-SHOCK “MR-G” (2) “Clad guard structure that enables crown size reduction and increased shock resistance
One of the weakest points of a wristwatch is the ” crown ” which is the part used to operate the time and date. Since the crown is directly connected to the inside of the watch, it is easily subjected to direct impact from the outside and is said to be the most vulnerable part of the watch to internal damage. The MR-G project team devised the “CladGuard Structure,” a compact and lightweight crown guard that protects the crown. By integrating the crown, the buttons, and the guard that protects them, the size and weight of the crown was reduced. In addition, shock resistance has been improved by inserting αGEL inside the crown unit. The elimination of the need for large guard parts has resulted in a sophisticated look befitting a top-of-the-line series.

Features of G-SHOCK “MR-G” (3) “High-grade specifications with durable, lightweight titanium material with high metallic value
The use of titanium for the case and band, which is said to be difficult to process, is another point that cannot be overlooked when discussing the MR-G. Titanium has a higher metal value than stainless steel, which is normally used, and is strong, lightweight, and allergy-free, so even people with metal allergies can wear it with peace of mind. The G-SHOCK “Frogman,” which has been developed as a diver’s watch with ISO-standard 200m diving water resistance, has been updated to MR-G specifications with a titanium exterior. In order to express the complex asymmetrical shape in titanium, the center case and bezel are fixed by laser welding. This series was developed over a period of more than four years from conception to commercialization by meticulously assembling as many as 76 parts, including O-rings to maintain water resistance and shock absorbers to strengthen the shock-resistant structure, to improve airtightness. For the band, a Durasoft band made of fluorine rubber, which is softer than ordinary urethane, is used for a better feel against the skin.
