The charm of Church’s leather shoes created by tradition and modernity
In 1999, Church’s shoes became a part of the Prada Group. This was an opportunity for the brand to offer fashionable shoes with a trendy appeal while maintaining its traditional model, and it has grown to become a favorite brand of fashionistas all over the world. After this acquisition, some leather shoe enthusiasts classify the items made before that time as “old Church” shoes, but each of the old and the new has its own merits and common charms. We have narrowed down the appeal of the old and new shoes to three key points.
Church’s leather shoes are remarkable for 1) “The honest craftsmanship that takes about 8 weeks and a total of 250 processes.
Church’s leather shoes continue to be manufactured at the Northampton factory even after becoming part of Prada. From cutting the leather to sewing, welting, and finishing, the shoes are carefully produced by skilled craftsmen. It takes a great deal of time and effort to make a single pair of shoes, and it takes about eight weeks to finish, a total of 250 processes. The traditional and honest shoemaking process is still being carried on today, more than 140 years after the company’s establishment. Incidentally, it is said that this brand was the first to introduce half-size shoes, perhaps because of this meticulous and careful work.
