Italian brand suits are very popular in Japan. The attractive point of these suits is their flamboyant and light designs that seem to symbolize Italy’s unique Latin culture. In this issue, we introduce such Italian suit brands!

3 styles of Italian brand suits you need to know about

Did you know that there are three main styles of Italian suits? In fact, there is ” Milanese ” in the north, ” Florentine ” in the middle, and ” Naples ” in the south. This difference in style reflects the different Italian culture in each region. However, it is also important to remember that the three styles are intermingled within Italy, with some sartorians based in Milan but doing Neapolitan tailoring.

Italian style (1) “Milanese

The northern Italian style, “Milanese,” is characterized by a structured design similar to English tailoring. It is the most powerful of the three Italian styles, with its concave shoulders that curve in a bow from the base of the neck to the tips of the shoulders and its emphasis on the chest. Also, the fabric used is thicker than in Naples, partly because of the cooler temperatures in northern Italy. Incidentally, “A. Caraceni” is a representative brand when it comes to Milanese style.

Italian Style 2 “Florentine

Florentine” is a style that originated in central Florence. The most distinctive feature of this style is that it dares to omit the front darts, which are usually placed in the center of the front body. By omitting the darts, a sophisticated and neat appearance is achieved. A well-known brand that follows this traditional Florentine tailoring style is “LIVERANO & LIVERANO”.

Italian style 3 “Napoli

Of the three major Italian styles, “Napoli” is the most popular in Japan. It is characterized by its lightness and comfort, which is related to the mild climate of southern Italy. The soft tailoring with minimal interlining allows the garment to follow the body and give a three-dimensional impression when worn. The chest bulka pockets and kissing buttons, which are attached in a row, are also attractive details that make it instantly recognizable. Incidentally, “Sartoria Panico” and “Sartoria Ciardi” are representative of such Napoletana. Sartoria Panico” and “Sartoria Ciardi”.
