ISLAND SLIPPER is a long-established manufacturer with a history of over 70 years.
The company’s origins can be traced back to a family that began making flip-flops based on the idea of zori, Japanese sandals. The sandal manufacturing business was started by Mr. Takizo Motonaga and his wife Misao, a Japanese immigrant to Hawaii, and their son Edward Motonaga founded the company in 1946. Although the company now has its own factory, it began as a small, family-run business. The company’s commitment to ” Made in Hawaii ” has remained since its inception, and each pair of sandals is carefully finished by hand.
The growth of ISLAND SLIPPER has been passed down from generation to generation
The quality sandals are made by hand with care and attention to detail, and when you put your foot into them, they gently fit you as if they were wrapped around your foot. After Takizo passed away in 1967, his great-grandchildren took over the management of the company, and in the 1970s, the company began to gain support from young people interested in fashion. In the 70’s, the brand began to be supported by young people who were interested in fashion. Taking advantage of the surfing boom, the brand was exported to the mainland, and became very popular on the West Coast.
The turning point came in 1986. John Carpenter, who had grown up in Hawaii and worked for a Hawaiian shoe manufacturer as a teenager, was expected to carry on the spirit of the Motonaga family business. Since then, Mr. Carpenter has successfully expanded Island Slipper not only to the mainland U.S., but also to the Caribbean, South America, and other foreign countries. The brand has become so popular that many people in Japan have become loyal Island Slipper users.
