What is Sanyo Sancho’s certified pre-owned shoes, which have been selling leather shoes that have been handed down for a long time by utilizing Japan’s advanced technology?
In December 2022, Sanyo Sancho will partner with “Leather Shoes Cat,” a company that trains young people with disabilities to become shoe polishers and repairers. The “Cat in Leather Shoes” project was started to collect donations of Sanyo Sancho’s leather shoes that are no longer needed and provide them to the Cat in Leather Shoes for training.

As the first phase of the project, 18 pairs of leather shoes were collected in about a month and a half as a result of soliciting donations of leather shoes. In the second phase of the project, the shoes are maintained by a shoeshiner/shoe repairer who wears leather shoes. The 12 pairs in good condition will be sold at the official Sanyo Sancho Reuse Store as Sanyo Sancho certified used shoes. The price is a flat 49,500 yen with the right to receive shoeshine maintenance after purchase. This is a new attempt to create a ” partner ” relationship between the leather shoes and the craftsman through regular maintenance by the purchaser, rather than the conventional 1-way method of just selling off the used shoes. The two companies will examine this initiative from the perspective of promoting sustainability, and will promote a system to pass on shoes that are no longer worn to new needs.

The certified used shoes are Sanyo Sancho’s Goodyear Welted leather shoes. The shoes are selected as those that can be worn for more than three years with care, and depending on their condition, repairs such as sole replacement as well as polishing are performed. The laces and insoles were replaced with new ones, and the original logo, exclusive to this project, was engraved on the insoles.

For the sale of certified pre-owned shoes, the company has partnered with a new partner, Free Standard Co. Through the reuse function of the company’s “Retailer” distribution solution, the company will manage and operate the site, including the construction and operation of the Sales Stors site, the details of donations at the stores, the details of repairs at cats wearing leather shoes, and the logistics of shipping and other operations.
