The first letter of the model name represents the type of design, as in Tomonosuke, “Tomo” means straight tip, “Kan” in Kanshiro means U-tip, and “Gen” in Genshiro, introduced here, means double monk.
And the second and third letters reflect the last (wooden pattern) adopted. Those with “Jiro” in the name, such as the Tomojiro, an inner-feathered straight-tip shoe, use the R200 last, while those with “Nosuke” in the name, such as the Kotonosuke with its distinctive Adelaide design, use the R300 last. The “Minamoto Shiro” introduced here is also a model name meaning “‘Minamoto’ = Double Monk Shoes and ‘Shiro’ = R2000 lasts.

It is said that the origin of the design of double monk shoes started when JOHN LOBB, a long-established British shoe manufacturer, received an order for ” shoes for everyday wear ” from the British royal family, King Edward VIII, in 1945.
