New Berluti shoes with artistically draped uppers
Berluti, a French luxury shoe manufacturer with over 100 years of history, has announced its new spring shoe line, ” Drapé. Inspired by the drapes in traditional sculptures and paintings in the history of art, these leather shoes are characterized by their curvilinear lines and washed-out shapes. Soft Venetian leather is folded and stitched together to create the volume of a couture drape. This technique was used for the model named after Berluti’s founder, “Alessandro,” and for “Andy,” a loafer created for Andy Warhol.
The “Alessandro Drape”, a variation on the Alessandro, is an oxford featuring three exquisitely contrasting layers of leather shoes with a design featuring three layers of exquisitely contrasting leathers. Each leather is made of ” Nero Grigio ” patina, a blend of black and gray in different proportions. The patina created by the craftsmanship creates depth, and the color is lightened near the folds of the leather to accentuate the draping technique.
The loafer Andy, created for Andy Warhol by the fourth generation Olga Berluti in 1962, incorporates the drape technique on the heel cap and toe cap. The color is a gradation of beetle green inspired by nature and animals, and the unique shade of dark green accentuates the curvaceous form of the shoe. The beauty of the sharply shaped form is also Andy’s unique appeal.
