Dr. Martens”, a shoe brand that establishes a unique position with its air-cushioned soles
Dr. Martens is a shoe brand launched in 1945 by Klaus Maertens, a doctor who belonged to the German army. The company was born when Klaus Maertens, who suffered an ankle injury while skiing in the Bavarian Alps during a vacation, invented an air-cushioned sole for rehabilitation by processing an old tire. On April 1, 1960, the sole, named ” Air Wair,” was commercialized after 10 years of work. The first model, the 8-hole boot, was loved by rock musicians of yesteryear such as “The Beatles” and “The Rolling Stones,” and remains an iconic Dr. Martens boot today.
Not limited to 8-hole boots, Dr. Martens shoes have several standard details. Yellow stitching” used in the pressure-bonded Goodyear welt method and “polished smooth leather” with a unique sheen are typical examples. Of course, it is also fun to choose a non-standard model that does not use these details.
