What are Tuck Pants?

Tucked pants are a general term for pants with ” folds of fabric pinched and sewn (tucked) ” at the front waist. Another reason for their popularity is that they are comfortable around the waist, matching the effortless style of today.

Tucked pants” and “pleated pants” are used to mean the same thing. Are they actually different?

Pleated pants” are often used to refer to bottoms with tucks, but a strict examination of the meanings of the words “tuck” and “pleat” reveals that they are actually two different things. A tuck is a folded or gathered piece of fabric that has been sewn to create folds. Pleats are folded folds of fabric to create a three-dimensional effect, and refer to the detail of folded folds that continue all the way to the hem, as often seen in skirts. The Issey Miyake bottoms shown below are also “pleated. In other words, what is commonly referred to as “pleated pants” are technically “tucked pants. However, nowadays, the term “tucked pants” and “pleated pants” are rarely used so strictly, so it is safe to say that both terms are applicable to bottoms with folds at the waist.
