Nike’s iconic “Air Max” high-tech sneaker
The Air Max has its roots in 1977. The roots of the Air Max can be traced back to 1977, when Frank Rudy, an engineer and former NASA employee, brought to Nike a system for injecting air into the sole. The following year, Nike introduced the ” Air Tailwind “, the first running shoe in sneaker history to incorporate air. In 1987, Nike released the first Air Max, developed by legendary designer Tinker Hatfield. Inspired by the Pompidou Center in Paris, where the inside of the shoe can be seen from the outside, the “Visible Air” is the most distinctive feature of the Air Max. The series attracted more and more attention on the streets, and in the late 1990s, it became so popular that it triggered a high-tech sneaker boom. What is the innovative model ” Air Max 180 ” that marked a turning point in the popular series?
The Air Max 180, as the name suggests, is a model with 180-degree Visible Air cushioning. It was the first shoe in which the air unit was bonded to a bold urethane outsole, allowing the air to come into direct contact with the road surface. The design was created by Tinker Hatfield, the genius designer and creator of the Air Max series. When it was first created in 1991, it was called the ” Air 180 ” and was released as a different line from the legitimate Air Max series because it was equipped with 50% more air than the previous model. More than 20 years have passed since its first appearance, and it was reissued in 2013. The Air Max 180 was renamed the ” Air Max 180 ” and rejoined the series. In recent years, the Air Max series has evolved to include Visible Air throughout the midsole. It can be said that the Air Max 180 was the model that triggered a major evolution of the series.
