Former professional tennis player Stan Smith, the namesake of adidas Originals’ classic iconic shoe “STAN SMITH,” will publish his book “STAN SMITH: SOME PEOPLE THINK I AM A SHOE. To celebrate this event, Stan Smith himself will be signing copies of his book at the adidas Originals Flagship Store Tokyo on October 2 (Tuesday)!

Book “STAN SMITH: SOME PEOPLE THINK I AM A SHOE” Traces the Roots of the Masterpiece Sneaker STAN SMITH

Stan Smith’s book “STAN SMITH: SOME PEOPLE THINK I AM A SHOE” will tell 15 stories about his life as a tennis player and the “STAN SMITH” sneakers that made him famous worldwide. The book also includes a portrait of Stan Smith as told by artist Pharrell Williams, a well-known collaborator with adidas Originals, and an introduction to the previous generations of “STAN SMITH” sneakers that have been released. This 169-page work provides an insight into the person of Stan Smith as well as his timeless connection to the “STAN SMITH” sneaker and Adidas. 7,480 yen + tax, available on Sunday, September 30, 2018.

Stan Smith will be signing copies of his book at the adidas Originals Flagship Store Tokyo, and the book will also be available for purchase at the store from the day of the event. The history of Adidas’ classic sneaker STAN SMITH

A simple white leather shoe made in 1973 was named “STAN SMITH” to honor the achievements of Stan Smith, an up-and-coming American tennis player who achieved brilliant results in two consecutive seasons from 1971 to 1972. The popularity of “STAN SMITH” shoes with his face on the shoe’s tongue showed no sign of waning in 1980, but rather continued to be shipped around the world, attracting the attention of subcultures. 1997 saw the “STAN SMITH” brand take the Japanese fashion media by storm.
