The stitch-down manufacturing method is lightweight and easy on the feet, but it has the disadvantage of being less waterproof due to stitch holes in the upper leather, since it is sewn directly onto the leather. Danner has focused on this issue and developed a lightweight and highly waterproof outdoor boot by adopting Danner’s original stitch-down manufacturing method using Gore-Tex. The unique manufacturing method, which is a combination of the conventional stitch-down manufacturing method and the moccasin manufacturing method, has been devised for trails so that they can be worn even in bad weather conditions.

The Danner stitchdown process differs from the traditional stitchdown process in that the upper is made in two layers, with the outer layer made of leather and the inner layer made of moccasin leather. The outer leather upper is fished in using the stitchdown method, while the inner Gore-Tex molded upper is shaped like a sock that wraps around the foot like a moccasin. The first and second layers of the upper create a small space called an “air space,” which allows water that enters through the first layer of the upper to easily drain outward. In addition, in order to maximize the performance of the highly breathable Gore-Tex, Danner Lite dares to sew the upper and Gore-Tex together only at the ankle, thereby providing high moisture permeability that allows perspiration from the feet to escape.

Vibram is an Italian sole brand, but production is now taking place in various countries. The Cretar Lift sole used in Danner Lite is a Made in USA standard. It is a single-piece flat sole with a maximum thickness of 9 mm, but with a command sole pattern that also reduces flexibility. The midsole is made of a moderately stiff PU resin, and the flexibility of the Cretarlift sole makes it a high-specification outsole for a trekking boot that grips the ground and walks firmly.
