Introducing the appeal and classic models of ZEPPELIN, a romantic watch with an airship motif

The roots of the German watch brand ” Zeppelin

The brand concept of Zeppelin, including its watch designs, is based on the ” Zeppelin,” the airship that is the pride of Germany. The Zeppelin was a “hard” airship completed by Count Ferdinand Graf von Zeppelin in 1900. The conventional soft type airships flew by using gas pressure to maintain their external shape. Since the gas bag itself was used as the hull, it was easily deformed, and its flight speed was slow. In contrast, rigid airships had a skeleton made of aluminum alloy or other light materials and were covered with linen or cotton cloth. This structure enabled the airship to maintain its hull shape and to fly at a speed unmatched by soft airships. It also made it possible to increase the size of the ship and the amount of cargo it could carry, revolutionizing a new means of transportation.

The development of the Zeppelin was so great for mankind that the word “Zeppelin” has come to be used idiomatically to refer to a “rigid airship. Following Count Zeppelin’s will, the Zeppelin Company went on to develop a series of historic airships, but due to conflicts with the Nazi Party, the company was nationalized in the mid-1930s. About 50 years later, the watchmaker ” Zeppelin ” was born. The brand’s collections are filled with designs reminiscent of the airship Zeppelin, such as rounded glass and pilot’s watch-like dials. Above all, it inherits the inventive spirit and product passion of Count Zeppelin, who perfected the rigid airship despite how much others scoffed at the impossibility of such a feat.
