What is “JAMES GROSE”?
JAMES GROSE was founded in 1876 by Joseph G. Grose, the first British leatherwear brand. He started his career as a leather craftsman in St. James’s, Northamptonshire, and was so good at bicycle racing that he broke the national record. A craftsman and businessman, he started a retail business selling bicycle equipment and other accessories. In the 1950s, the business became one of London’s leading department stores, but the recession in the 1970s forced the company to close its doors for a time. About 40 years later, the store was revived in 2016 after James Grose archival items were found stored in the factory. Currently, items are handmade one by one at the only factory in London that specializes in riders.
