What is “POLARTEC” in the first place?
POLARTEC is a long-established fabric manufacturer founded in 1906 in Massachusetts, USA. The Polartec fleece was created by Patagonia
In the 1950s, faux fur became very popular in the fashion world. The company’s business was enriched by the production of products made of raised polyester, but demand for such products began to decline in the 1970s. At that time, Yvon Chouinard, founder of the famous outdoor manufacturer Patagonia, visited the Morden Mills’ material factory and decided to jointly develop a fleece material. The outdoor wear “Synchilla” that used the fleece became a big hit, and Polartec’s business greatly recovered. Various manufacturers subsequently began to use fleece, and Polartec was recognized as the “creator of fleece material.

Differences between Polartec fleece and ordinary fleece
The knit of ordinary fleece is tight and the pile is often short due to the priority given to ease of production. Polartec fleece, on the other hand, has a coarser knit in a good sense, and the fleece has a longer pile. By raising the knit, the fleece is breathable, warm, fluffy, soft, and light. Its proven functionality is highly regarded around the world, and Polartec fleece is used in a number of outdoor wear products. It is also highly regarded in the military field, as it is used in the U.S. military’s “ECWCS level 3” combat uniform system.
