Denim Shirts Special! Selected picks of recommended items by type.

This time, we focus on “denim shirts”, a standard men’s wear, and introduce recommended items by type!

What is denim in the first place?

Denim is a thick twill fabric made mainly of cotton yarn. Generally, it is woven with thick colored yarns for the warp and finer white yarns for the weft, with the color of the warp on the front side and the white of the weft on the back side. When you look closely at twill fabrics, you can see a diagonal ridged weave pattern, but denim fabrics are often made in right-hand twill with the ridges rising to the right. The advantage of right-hand twill is that the fabric is more durable and has a more pronounced bite. However, there are also left twill denim fabrics, which are easier to blend in because the weave of the fabric is a little sweeter, and also have the advantage that you can enjoy a unique color fading called vertical fading (line fading). Incidentally, left-hand twill denim is often found in vintage denim, so it would be fun to look for it.

What is the difference between “dungaree” and “chambray,” which are similar but different?

Dungaree” and “chambray” are similar fabrics. Both are thinner than denim and are used mainly for spring and summer clothing. Dungaree” is a type of denim with twill weave, but the yarn is used in the opposite way to denim. Therefore, many fresh colors are available, and nowadays they are also produced in plain weave. Chambray” is made of the same yarn as denim, but with a plain weave instead of a twill weave. The fabric is flat and has a slight sheen, and it is easy to blend with the skin.
