During World War II, duffle coats were worn by the Royal Navy to protect themselves from cold weather on board ships. After the war, “Groverall” was commissioned by the British Ministry of Defense to sell surplus duffle coats and popularized them among the general public. The “Monty” model, named after Bernard Montgomery, a British army general who loved to wear duffel coats during the war, is tailored in a traditional design and has a very traditional look. There are also several types of Monty’s, ranging from length and fitting to fabrics that have been modified. For those who prefer to start out with the “classic” look, the “Original Monty” is the one for you. If so, we recommend the “Original Monty”.

Standard model of duffle coat ② “MONTGOMERY Tibbett Duffle Coat
Montgomery” is a brand that cannot be ignored when talking about duffle coats, and was founded in 1860 by Ideal Clothing Company, which changed its name in 1987, and it is said that this brand gave birth to the duffle coat. Montgomery’s original items are not widely available in Japan, but special-order items are manufactured by famous select stores such as BEAMS and SHIPS. The stores have introduced models that have been updated for the modern age by adjusting the fitting to the Japanese body shape and subtly changing details, so be sure to check them out.
