What is Nike’s iconic series “Air Max?
In 1977, Frank Rudy, an engineer who had worked for NASA, brought to Nike a system that injected “air” into the sole. After much trial and error, the first Air Max was released in 1987. The most distinctive feature of the Air Max was its design, invented by designer Tinker Hatfield, which allowed the air inside the sole to be seen from the outside. This revolutionary design, dubbed “Visible Air,” made the shoe a huge success on the streets. The first Air Max had Visible Air in only one part of the heel, but the Air Max 95, introduced in 1995, had it in the forefoot. This created an unprecedented boom in high-tech sneakers. The successor, the Air Max 97, featured full-length Visible Air with windows all around the sole, and in 2019, the Air Max 720, with the largest capacity Air sole in Nike’s history at 38 mm thick, was also released.
Air Max Deluxe “, an original pair born from rave culture
Nike’s Air Max Deluxe, which debuted in 1999 at the turn of the century, is based on the Air Max 97 design, also known as the ” Cybermax,” which was released in 1997. Inspired by the worldwide rave culture of the late 1990’s, the Air Max 97’s colorful graphics depict the undulating sound and energy of the rave culture. The 2018 reissue of the Air Max Deluxe retains the lightweight cushioning and comfort of the Air Max 97, while modernizing the materials and colors. updated with modern materials and colors while maintaining lightweight cushioning and comfort. The Air Max Deluxe is available in a wide range of variations, including an all-black model as well as a graphical model reminiscent of that era.
