What is smooth knitting, which you should know if you care about fabrics?

Smooth knitting” is a type of fabric often used for T-shirts and underwear. Although the name gives some idea of its smoothness to the touch, surprisingly few people know what else it has to offer. In this article, we will explain what “smooth knitting” is.

What is smooth knitting?

Smooth knitting is a knitting structure in which two rubber knitted fabrics are back-to-back, and both sides are used as the surface fabric. It is also called interlock knitting or double-sided knitting. Due to the mechanism of knitting the elastic knitting back-to-back, the fabric tends to be thicker, so thinner yarns are often used, which gives the fabric elasticity and luster. Because of these characteristics, this fabric is often used for T-shirts, knitwear, underwear, etc., which are easy to use in daily life. It is also often used for underwear for winter because of its excellent heat retention properties due to its ability to hold air in the knitted fabric.
