What is “GORE-TEX”?
GORE-TEX” is the name of the material developed by WL Gore & Associates, Inc. in the U.S. “GORE-TEX Fabrics,” as it is called, is a revolutionary material that combines waterproof durability and wind resistance with breathability to prevent moisture vapor, which had been considered difficult to achieve with waterproofing. It was first commercialized in 1976 for use in tents, and is now widely used in outdoor goods and rainwear due to its high functionality. Focus on 3 features of GORE-TEX!
There are several types of GORE-TEX fabrics, but we will explain the structure and three features of the standard GORE-TEX fabric, which is the main type of GORE-TEX fabric.
Characteristic of GORE-TEX (1) “Waterproof durability
GORE-TEX fabrics have a three-layer structure called “GORE-TEX laminate,” with ” outer fabric, GORE-TEX membrane, and lining fabric” in between. The outermost layer, the outer layer, is made of a material that repels water, making it waterproof, while the smooth surface prevents dirt, gravel, and dust from sticking to it, making it durable. This outer material is the reason for the established waterproofness and durability of GORE-TEX.

GORE-TEX Characteristic #2: “Breathability
What sets GORE-TEX apart from other materials is that, in addition to its waterproofing properties, it is also breathable. This is due to the performance of the core ” GORE-TEX membrane ” located in the center of the three-layer structure. The GORE-TEX membrane, made of fluoroplastic, is characterized by countless small holes, which are so small that water droplets cannot pass through, but are larger than water vapor molecules, making it waterproof and breathable. GORE-TEX Characteristic 3: Windproofness
Wind can lead to cooling of the body when outdoors or in the rain. The amazing thing about GORE-TEX is that it also protects against wind. The three-dimensional spider web structure of the GORE-TEX membrane catches wind, which is a mass of air, and disperses it from the body to provide wind protection.
