Next to the Birkenstock footbed, the “Birkenstock sole” is the second most iconic part of a Birkenstock shoe. The sole is made of EVA in a bone pattern, with a luxurious 10mm-thick cushioning EVA, which is lightweight, so it does not feel heavy even if it is thick, and it is also highly durable, so the sole “lasts” well. For safety reasons, work boots with 10mm-thick rubber soles are heavier and have a harder sole. In terms of durability, rubber soles are superior, but EVA soles are by far the best in terms of light weight and comfort.

Adventure Crosstown model
The Adventure Crosstown model, created in 2020, does not use the standard Birkenstock sole, but has a new outsole with a new specification that provides a firm grip on the ground and prevents slipping on any type of terrain. The footbed is molded by injecting raw materials, a mixture of regular latex and cork, directly into a urethane rubber outsole mold. The outsole is made of three layers of thermoplastic polyurethane resin, which can handle hot terrain.
