Soothing footwear that’s addictive! How Birkenstock’s signature footbeds are made

After the end of World War II in 1945, sandals made with Birkenstock’s flexible footbeds became the talk of the town among returning soldiers. Birkenstock also produces products for the medical field. Practical sandals that are also favored by medical professionals in Boston.

Based on its experience in manufacturing sandals for medical use as well as “comfort shoes” for the general public, the company focused on manufacturing work shoes for the medical field. The “BOSTON,” a clog-type shoe without a heel, has been reproduced for use in the medical field. The design is almost unchanged, but a rubber sole with a higher grip is used to support medical and nursing care workers in many hectic situations. This practical manufacturing technique is trusted not only in Germany but also around the world.
