In this issue, we focus on the “anorak parka” and introduce its features and recommended items!

What is an anorak parka?

Anorak is a pullover type windproof and warm jacket. It is derived from the Greenlandic word annoraaq, and was originally made by the Inuit, one of the Eskimo tribes indigenous to Greenland, using animal skins. Nowadays, it is used almost synonymously with parka and windbreaker, and is basically made of synthetic fibers such as nylon and polyester instead of leather. The most common design features are hoodies and half-zips, with kangaroo pockets as the basic type, but muff pocket types also exist. All of them have a minimalist look and are easy to incorporate into fashion.

Current anorak designs have their roots in military wear!

It was in the 1970s~80s that L.L Bean, Nike, and all other brands popularized the anorak as a fashion item in its current design. However, there is a theory that military wear was the source of the design. During World War II, military wear such as the “Pullover Smock Jacket” and the “N-2 Deck Rain Parka” were used by the British and American military to protect themselves from strong winds. These items are similar in design to today’s anoraks. Furthermore, these items are also called military anoraks. If you like rugged and rugged, you may want to try these military-spec anoraks.
