Introducing the charm and classic models of Brewer, a pioneer in necktie manufacturing

Brewer is a long-established tie manufacturer that has been in business for 125 years. The brand’s ties, made using traditional techniques, bring a sense of volume and elegance to the V-zone that cannot be achieved with machine-made ties. In this issue, we interviewed Mr. Alain Breuer to learn more about the brand’s history and charm!

What is Brewer?

Founded at the end of the 19th century, Brewer is known as one of the first tie manufacturers. The company’s first base of operations was in Vienna, Austria, then moved to Belgium, and since the end of World War II, it has been based in Nice, France. The brand’s handmade ties have an elegant texture and natural three-dimensionality. The thicker fabrics used enable the construction of voluminous knots and dimples that do not collapse easily. The bright colors with a southern French spirit are also a feature of these ties, which can create a sophisticated V-zone look.

Brewer’s History

First factory founded in Vienna, Austria.

Brewer was established in 1892. It was founded by Markus Breuer in Vienna, Austria in the late 19th century, the center of European fashion at the time. In the 1930s, his sons Eric and Julius Brewer joined the company. The business quickly grew and expanded its sales channels from Austria to the rest of Europe and even to the Middle East.

Success in Nice, France, and the world’s leading Necta brand.

In 1938, the company established a factory in Belgium, and in 1946, it became based in Brussels, but this did not work out well, partly due to the war. In 1951, after the end of World War II, Brewer left Belgium and tried again in Nice, France. The collections created by Eric Brewer that year attracted a great deal of attention in France and other international markets. In 1974, Eric’s sons, Alain Brewer and Walter Brewer, took over the company, continuing the family business tradition successfully. In 1980, the company expanded into Asia with the goal of further international market expansion. In 1991, the headquarters building was constructed near the Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport. Built in a neo-Provencal style to match the bright sunshine and blue skies of the city, the 1,500-square-meter building was doubled in size to 3,000 square meters four years later, symbolizing the success of the business.

Mr. Allan talks about the essence of Brewer and its international expansion

In making clothes, Alain says, “The essence of the brand lies in the quality of the fabrics and interlinings, the comfort and elegance of the garments, and the elegance that is created from them.” In 2000, the brand opened its second flagship store in Paris. By building a flagship store near the Place Vendôme, lined with prestigious fashion brands, Brewer’s name recognition grew even more. From this point on, Brewer began to handle not only ties, but also suits, jackets, and trousers, and grew into a high-end men’s wear brand. Brewer’s momentum continued, and in 2006 he opened a new store in Madrid, Spain. The same year, Brewer also opened a store on ” Saks Fifth Avenue, ” a luxury department store on Fifth Avenue in New York City. Over the next seven years, Brewer’s products were sold in five Saks Fifth Avenue stores in Palm Beach, Chicago, New Orleans, and San Francisco, and the brand provided uniforms for the French national team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In 2015, the company opened three stores in Seoul. Brewer, one of the world’s oldest tie brands, continues to develop and is still a favorite of gentlemen around the world 125 years after its founding.

The charm of Brewer ties ” handmade

Rarely does the final quality of a tie differ as much as it does between machine-made and handmade ties. Machine-made ties are inevitably sewn in a straight line, resulting in a uniform, floppy finish. On the other hand, a hand-stitched tie has just the right amount of fullness to give it a high quality feel. Brewer’s tie production is highly regarded for its craftsmanship that pursues quality down to the smallest detail, such as cutting the fabric with careful consideration for the position of the pattern and hand-stitching the cannequin stop.
The benefits of the brand’s high-level cutting technology can be enjoyed when the tie is actually worn. By cutting in the correct direction for the material, the fabric is prevented from kinking and knots are less likely to fall apart. Another major feature of this technique is that the weight is evenly distributed downward, allowing the tie to fall straight down and wrinkles to be easily stretched. In addition, by choosing a core that matches the texture of the fabric, a “three-dimensionality” that is essential to the necktie can be created.

The charm of a Brewer-made tie ” thick, high-quality fabric “

Brewer ties are made from an abundance of silk and wool, and have an elegant sheen and a high-quality softness. This is the charm of natural materials, which cannot be achieved with synthetic fabrics, which are thin and prone to fine wrinkles. Brewer is also famous for using only the thickest of natural fabrics, which create a well-balanced sense of volume. Ties made of this wonderful thick fabric are extremely easy to tie and difficult to untie. It is also possible to create beautiful and unbreakable dimples, and to freely adjust the volume of the knot, even with a simple knot such as a plain knot.

The charm of a Brewer necktie ” beautiful colors

There are many famous necktie makers, but none can compare to Brewer when it comes to “beautiful colors. The brand specializes in vivid colors that evoke the beautiful sea and sun of Nice, France, where it is based. The collection is superb with tropical colors expressing the fruits of the south of France and blue tones reminiscent of the Mediterranean Sea. The brand maintains its sense of color by using high-density natural fabrics from France, designs conceived in France, and manufactured in Italy, a country that prides itself on its high level of technology.
