Did you know there is a trick to using milky lotion? Check out how to apply it to reduce shine and stickiness!

Many men avoid using milky lotion because it makes their skin sticky and shiny. In this issue, we introduce “tips on how to use emulsion” to solve such common problems!

What is the role of emulsion?

The role of milky lotion is to prevent moisture from evaporating from the skin. Emulsion is basically composed of 20~30% oil, and when used after lotion or serum, it acts as a lid to prevent dryness. Incidentally, it is said that skin lacking oil tends to become alkaline, and replenishing oil with milky lotion helps to keep the skin slightly acidic. If the skin’s pH balance is disturbed and it tends toward alkalinity, redness and itching may occur, so emulsion should always be used during dry periods.

Should men who easily produce sebum also use emulsion?

Some may think that men’s skin does not need to be supplemented with milky lotion to replenish oil, since men’s skin tends to produce sebum. However, compared to women, men’s skin retains less moisture and is surprisingly delicate, so the use of milky lotion is basically recommended. Men in particular are said to have a mix of dry and oily skin, called “mixed skin,” and their sebum can make it difficult to notice dryness. In order to get rid of such hidden dry skin and to lead the skin to a healthy state, milky lotion should be used.

When is the best time to use emulsion?

Basically, the best timing is to use emulsion after toner and essence. Be careful not to apply emulsion immediately after washing your face, as the skin will be covered with oil, making it difficult for moisture to penetrate the skin and diminishing the effects of the toner or serum. However, some products are used before lotion, and some emulsions combine the effects of lotion, so there are cases where emulsions are used immediately after cleansing the face. For such special emulsions, instructions for use are written on the package, so be sure to check them and use them at the correct time.

Tips on how to use emulsion! If you are worried about shine, you should be aware of the amount and order of application.

Many men may avoid using milky lotions because of the shiny or sticky feeling after application. For those who do, I would like to suggest that they be aware of the amount and order of application. First, take an amount about the size of a one yen coin. We recommend applying it in the following order: cheeks, bridge of the nose, chin, nose, and forehead. The key point here is to use only the excess milky lotion on the nose and forehead, which are called the T-zone, where shine tends to be more noticeable. By applying first to the cheeks, which tend to be dry, and last to the areas that tend to produce sebum, you can control shine while balancing the moisture/oil content of the entire face.

Also, depending on skin type and product, a one yen coin size may not be enough, in which case it is recommended to add more later. Be careful not to take too much at the beginning, as this may lead to over-application. It is also recommended to apply in layers around the eye area and the laugh lines, which are prone to fine lines and wrinkles and tend to dry out.

If you are worried about stickiness, tissue off the skin!

Tissue-off is a method of removing excess oil by applying a tissue to the skin. This technique is mainly used for make-up application, but it is also effective when you are concerned about stickiness caused by emulsion. The procedure is very simple: fold the tissue once from its unfolded state and press it against half the face. The tissue will absorb just the right amount of oil, leaving your skin with a smooth texture. Incidentally, be careful not to use commercially available oil-absorbing paper, as it will absorb too much oil.

What is the wrong way to use milky lotion?

Introducing a common misuse of milky lotion!

Applying too much milky lotion is counterproductive! It may cause pimples and blackheads!

Using too much milky lotion at once is a definite no-no, as it does not immediately improve dryness, but can lead to flakiness, stickiness, and skin problems such as acne, pimples, and dark spots in the pores. For the same reason, it should not be applied more than once a day. Basically, it should only be used during skincare after cleansing, and if dryness becomes an issue during the day, it is recommended to use cosmetics such as those picked up below.

When applying milky lotion, the rule is “don’t rub”!

The ironclad rule of skincare is to “avoid friction damage. When spreading milky lotion on the face, the basic rule is to spread it without rubbing it with the belly of the finger. Frictional damage can cause redness and skin problems due to the skin barrier function being compromised, so be sure to apply gently.

What should you do if you don’t want to use milky lotion?

If you prefer not to use milky lotion, you can use it only on your cheeks and chin, which are prone to dryness, and not on your nose and forehead, which are prone to shine, or use it only during morning and evening skin care. If you do not want to use any milky lotion at all, we recommend that you choose a lotion with oil content, such as an oil-in lotion. This lotion moisturizes the skin but is not sticky, making it easy to use even for those who do not like milky lotions. Although less effective than using a milky lotion in combination with an emulsion, it can protect against dryness while saving time and effort in skin care, so those who do not want to use an emulsion should definitely try it.

Look for oil-in lotion
