Rimowa (RIMOWA)
Rimowa, a German suitcase manufacturer, was founded in Cologne in 1898 by Paul Morszeck, the second generation of Morszeck’s successor, in 1930. The brand name “RIMOWA” was derived from the initials of his full name, “Richard Morscheck Warenzeichen. In 1937, RIMOWA developed the world’s first suitcase made of aluminum, which was used as a material for German-made airplanes. In 1950, the company adopted a ribbed surface design inspired by aircraft design. In 2000, Rimowa introduced the world’s first polycarbonate suitcase. The “Original” (formerly known as ” Topas”) is a classic model that can be used for everything from business to travel.
The suitcase that symbolizes Rimowa is the model made of aluminum alloy, which has been unwaveringly popular since it was created in 1950. Known for a long time under the model name “Topaz,” it was reborn as “Original” in 2018, the 120th anniversary of the brand’s birth. The traditional aluminum body with ribbed structure is retained, but the logo and monogram have been changed. The sans-serif font logo on the front part of the watch has a more sophisticated look. In addition to the silver version, the models formerly known as “Topaz Stealth” and “Topaz Titanium” are now available in “Black” and “Titanium” versions.
