Skateboarding was the first sport to be adopted for the Tokyo Olympics. It is still fresh in our memories that Japanese skater Yuto Horiyone became the first gold medalist of all time, sending the whole country into a daytime frenzy. Yuto Horiyone is exceptionally particular about the sneakers he wears in competitions, as he introduced several of his favorite shoes in a ranking format on a WOWOW program. Basically, he seems to be a fan of NIKE sneakers, which is also one of the sponsors of his sport. The sneakers that Yuto Horiyone chose as his partner for the Olympics are the Nike SB Zoom Stefan Janoski Slip RM sneakers. The exact model worn is believed to be a limited edition or special order color, but the base model was the Stefan Janoski mentioned above.

This slip-on sneaker was designed in collaboration with legendary American skateboarder Stefan Janoski. These skate shoes have excellent durability and grip to withstand hard skateboarding play, and provide an excellent ground feel. This is an in-line product, but the model worn by Yuto Horiyone is expected to be a special-order model based on the design of the cuff and sole. Incidentally, the FRAGMENT collaboration AJ1, which is listed as No. 1, was given to Hiroshi Fujiwara, the designer, by Hiroshi Fujiwara himself, when he asked him in a DM where he could buy it, and he replied, “I want to see you skate in these shoes. The silver and bronze medalist in street skateboarding for men chose an up-and-coming sneaker brand from Brazil with an interesting “leaf logo”!
Silver medalist Kevin Hofler and bronze medalist Jagger Eaton both wear the same brand of sneakers, CARIUMA, which started in Rio, Brazil in 2016 and features a leaf-like logo. Both wore the CATIBA Pro model, with Keubin Hofler choosing the low cut and Jagger Eaton the high cut. The brand is not yet available in Japan, but can be purchased on e-commerce sites such as Rakuten and Farfetch.
