The winter outerwear scene, once dominated by down jackets, is undergoing a major change. In addition to proposals by influential maisons, long coats are gaining momentum on the streets as well. The “changing of the leading role” in winter wear is not a short-term trend, but a major trend that is likely to continue for some time to come.

Changing Mainstay of Winter OuterwearFashionistas around the world are going crazy for long coats!
The down jacket has long reigned as the outerwear that plays the leading role in fall and winter outfits. The rise of the luxury street and outdoor-mix styles has also helped to fuel a battle for down jackets in the popular Moncler and North Face models. However, the tide has turned as the trend has shifted to a clean look with tailored jackets as the mainstay, and long coats, especially long chester coats, have leapt to the forefront. In the Pitti Womo, which our editorial office has been monitoring regularly, there has been a marked increase in the use of long coats by the younger generation, who have been enthusiastic about Supreme and Balenciaga, and by the meek, who are conscious of their attractiveness to the opposite sex, not to mention those who are originally inclined toward dress wear.
This trend was also evident in the participants and presentations at Milan Fashion Week, where the so-called “long coats,” which are either calf-length or ankle-length, were introduced. Longer length coats, up to maxi-length, were noticeable.
Runway during Paris Fashion Week in January 2025 Louis Vuitton’s FW25 men’s collection, unveiled on the runway during Paris Fashion Week in January 2025, caught the eye with its A-line silhouette of a below-the-knee coat worn with baggy slacks. Hermès presented a chester coat made of thick melton, with weighty shoulders and light beige tones that struck a balance in the winter city. AURALEE, which has a strong following among industry professionals and is known for its real clothes, also featured long coats as its mainstay. The combination of simple construction and nuanced colors reinforced the direction of “long lengths will be the star this winter,” even in a context different from luxury.
Then I would like to recommend I will then introduce three models of long coats that I would like to recommend.
Long Coat 1 recommended by Mitsui, a member of the editorial staff of ARAFORGentleman Projects SHANKS TOKYO
Gentleman Projects’ SHANKS TOKYO is a sublimated version of the Chester coat in long length, made of 100% SUPER100’s wool melton, sewn in Japan, with a classic knit position. The peaked lapel with classic notch position is single-breasted design. The modest long length that falls close to the knees and the roomy silhouette draws vertical lines while moderately restraining a sense of heaviness. Fully lined to the hem with an inside pocket. It is also versatile enough to be worn with any top, such as a T-shirt, sweatshirt, or knit, making it an urban winter outerwear with a high enough degree of perfection.

Long Coat 2 recommended by Mitsui, an Araho editorial staff memberTHE ROW Virgin Wool Gabardine Coat
The Virgin Wool Gabardine Long Coat from The Row is a piece that pursues a minimalist and sophisticated appearance. This coat inherits the classic Chester design, while achieving a coexistence of ” stiffness ” and ” spaciousness ” through its straight and roomy silhouette. The gabardine fabric has a smooth surface with minimal fluff, and although thick, it is light and comfortable to wear, designed to regulate body temperature as urban winter clothing. It is lined and has an inside pocket configuration, making it practical for business use as well. While maintaining a sense of presence as a coat, the style, which is stripped of superfluous decorations, naturally goes well with outfits that seek a gentle sense of modesty.

3 Long Coats Recommended by Mitsui, an Araho EditorDRIES VAN NOTEN Wool Mix Twill Coat
Dries Van Noten’s wool-blend twill winter coat is a piece that combines the intelligent construction and playful mode that is typical of the Belgian style. While based on a long length that reaches below the knee, the slightly roomy, straight silhouette maintains vertical proportions. The wool-blend twill fabric has a firm yet lightweight texture, and is dense enough to withstand midwinter urban living. Lined for warmth, it combines high quality tailoring with practicality. As a long coat that is not biased toward the classics but has a contemporary mood, this is a piece that should be added to your list of candidates for this winter.
